Mike Siemienas, Supervalu spokesman, told KBOI 2news that the 100 positions affect nearly all departments in Boise - from entry level to vice president.
The company said Tuesday that sale of the five grocery chains means that the remaining business will need "significantly fewer" corporate and store support roles and functions.
The sale to AB Acquisition, an investor group led by Cerberus Capital Management, will include 877 stores. Cerberus will also offer to buy up to 30 percent of the remaining Supervalu for $4 per share after the deal closes.
The grocery chain, which is owned by Supervalu Inc., said the move follows an expanded recall by XL Foods Inc. for ground beef products imported to the U.S. from Canada.
Some employees will be laid off at every store and the layoffs should be finished by July 1. Representatives would not say if any stores would close or if there would be additional rounds of layoffs.
